Egg Collected by Darwin Rediscovered in Cambridge University Collections

A volunteer at the Museum of Zoology at Cambridge University in Great Britain has rediscovered an egg collected by Charles Darwin during his voyage on the H.M.S. Beagle. It is the only egg known to be collected by Darwin during that voyage. The mocha colored egg has Darwin’s name written on it. The museum’s collection manager emphasized the special nature of the discovery, given that this year is the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth. The discovery of the egg highlights the how much information is yet to be uncovered in natural history collections. To see the egg, go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7992911.stm.
