Advocacy Alert: Speak Up for Museum Funding

Representatives Paul Tonko (D-NY), David McKinley (R-WV), Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Andy Barr (R-KY), and Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are now circulating letters in their respective chambers calling for robust fiscal year (FY) 2022 funding for the Office of Museum Services (OMS) at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). These letters are a key measure of legislators support for federal funding for museums.

IMLS is the primary federal agency responsible for supporting the nation’s museums. OMS awards grants to museums of all types for educational programming, technology upgrades, community outreach, and preservation of treasured collections.

The American Alliance of Museums is encouraging museum professionals to take a moment to ask your Representatives (https://www.congressweb.com/AAM/62#/62/) and Senators (https://www.congressweb.com/AAM/63#/63/) to sign the dear colleague letters today. The deadline to sign on the letters is March 26, 2021.
