New Exhibit Goes Behind the Scenes at Harvard Natural History Museum

A new exhibit in the gallery at the National Academies of Science in Washington, DC, explores the stories and collections filling the back rooms of the Harvard Natural History Museum.  The exhibit, “The Rarest of the Rare,” is a collection of photographs from renowned photographer and art curator Mark Sloan. The exhibit features photos of some of the 21 million specimens and other features contained in backrooms of the museum, including an elephant bird egg, the extinct gastric brooding frog, and Stephen J. Gould’s office.

The exhibit is open weekdays to the public and runs from now through January 7, 2010.  For more information, visit the National Academies website at http://www.nasonline.org/site/PageServer?pagename=View_Future_Exhibitions_Mark_Sloan
